The only travel issue I had during this trip is I was originally booked on the Cardinal, one of Amtrak’s most scenic routes. However, the day before the departure, this train was cancelled. This was due to bad weather in West Virginia and not COVID. I was promptly re-booked on the Capital Limited. Biggest drawbacks here was that there was assigned seating, whereas The Cardinal is open seating (you choose your seat) and worst of all, no WIFI!!. Left Union Station early evening and traveled through the night through Toledo, OH and Cleveland, OH.
The dawn came in Pittsburgh, PA. Traveled through many of the small town in the Appalachian Mountains and snow covered forests. Then I saw it, The Martinsburg Roundhouse, Built in 1872 and used by B&O Railroad until 1988. One of the buildings is now in ruins and the other serves as a museum. Shortly arriving in Harper’s Ferry, WV and on through the DC suburbs before arriving in Washington, DC’s Union Station.
